Have you ever thought, If I could just have this one thing, then I would finally feel whole?
We all carry deep longings for love, peace, purpose, belonging, security, and rest. Those desires aren’t necessarily wrong. In fact, many of them are good. But sometimes we ask relationships, family, success, approval, comfort, or even ministry to carry a weight they were never created to carry.
In this episode, we’re asking one of the first questions Jesus asks in the book of John: “What are you looking for?” Through Scripture and honest stories from our own lives, we explore what happens when the things we hoped would satisfy us leave us wanting more, and how even our deepest longings can become invitations to draw closer to Jesus.
Because Jesus doesn’t shame us for searching. He invites us to come and see, and to discover that He isn’t simply the giver of the things our hearts need.
He is the one our hearts have been longing for all along.

John 1:35-39 – The next day, John was standing with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him say this and followed Jesus. When Jesus turned and noticed them following him, he asked them, “What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” “Come and you’ll see,” he replied. So they went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about four in the afternoon. (CSB)
John 4:10 – Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would ask him, and he would give you living water.”
John 4:13-14 – Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again. But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again. In fact, the water I will give him will become a well of water springing up in him for eternal life.”
John 6:35 – Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 6:40 – For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcomethe world.”
Psalm 37:4 – Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 107:9 – for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
Psalm 73:25-26 – Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Ephesians 3:16-19 – I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rootedand established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
